Foundation

The Marian Schmidt Foundation for the Visual Arts was established in 2020 after Marian Schmidt’s Death and according to his will, by his wife Marta Dutkiewicz-Schmidt and their son Arthur Schmidt.

Foundation Goals

  1. Manage and preserve Marian Schmidt’s artistic and pedagogical legacy, and disseminate knowledge about Marian Schmidt and his work. The foundation will insure that his methodology of creating visual works of art continues to be used and understood.
  2. Promote and disseminate culture and art, within the range of both traditional and modern visual and audiovisual artistic fields.
  3. Initiate, support, organize and co-organize educational activities within the range of visual and audiovisual artistic fields.
  4. Promote and support authorial artistic projects from talented Polish and international creators.
  5. Deepen our knowledge about the various methods of creating visual art, and their relations with sounds and music. Conduct researches on transcendence and spirituality in art.

 

The Foundation realises its goals by:
  1. Inventorying, digitising, archiving (both physically and electronically), safeguarding, storing and sharing Marian Schmidt’s and other creator’s artistic and pedagogical work.
  2. Creating an archive and a maintenance section for the work of both Marian Schmidt and other creators, and the caretaking of the technical state of both their photographic films and photographs in collaboration with national institutions or other types of institutions.
  3. Creating and maintainning a web page for the Foundation’s activities and a database also accessible through the web page.
    Initiating, supporting, being a patron to, organizing and co-organizing artistic projects in Poland and abroad.
  4. Collaborating with polish and international cultural and scientific institutions and publishing the results of these collaborations.
  5. Supporting, organizing, co-organizing, being a patron to, financing, co-financing conferences, symposiums, seminars, informative and social campaigns, lectures, workshops, educational programs, lectures, projections, educational streaming and field trips, for the promotion of visual and audiovisual arts.
  6. Initiating, conducting and supporting research projects in the field of visual and audiovisual arts.
  7. Realising and distributing films about Marian Schmidt and his work, and also films about other creators of visual and audiovisual arts.
  8. Conducting a publishing operation promoting creators of visual and audiovisual arts, with emphasis on publications about the life, work and methodology of Marian Schmidt.
  9. Establishing and granting distinctions, prizes, awards, scholarships to talented creators for specific projects and for their further education.
  10. Supporting public cultural institutions by sharing photographic collections and other artistic collections and information about them.
  11. Encouraging Men of science, culture and art to engage in and take actions towards areas within the scope of the Foundation’s goals.‍
